About
Sophie Crotty is a Melbourne based fashion designer, who has
recently graduated from the Fashion Design Honours programme at RMIT. Within
her practice she has taken on the roles of creative director, stylist,
photographer, and designer.
As a designer she aims to leave a art of herself
within the collections she creates whether that’s through the uses of her own
identity and culture as a reference, or through the use of hand techniques as
seen in her honours collection titled, reconnection. With her bi-racial
heritage and upbringing in both East Asia and Australia, correct representation
of culture based aesthetics remains an important part of her practice and
becoming the focus of her honours thesis. Among other issues, sustainability is
also at the forefront of her current practice with aims to design, construct
and communicate in a way that focuses on responsible consumption and
production.
